About this coffee

This washed AA lot comes from Kagere Factory in Nyeri County, Kenya. Cherries are delivered by a large network of local smallholder farmers, carefully sorted, and processed using the traditional washed method. After pulping, the coffee undergoes fermentation in concrete tanks before being washed, soaked, and slowly dried on raised beds to a final moisture content of 11–12%. The result is an exceptionally clean and vibrant cup that showcases the bright fruit character and precision Kenyan coffees are celebrated for.

ORIGIN INFO

The Producer

Kagere Factory receives cherries from around 800 smallholder farmers in the surrounding hills of Nyeri. On average, each producer cultivates around 100 coffee trees, typically on small family plots that have been passed down through generations. The farms are planted primarily with the traditional Kenyan varieties SL28 and SL34—two classic Kenyan cultivars, renowned worldwide for their exceptional cup quality. Combined with the region's high-altitude climate, mineral-rich soils, and deep-rooted plants, these conditions produce coffees with vibrant acidity, layered sweetness, and remarkable clarity. Operated by a Farmer Cooperative Society (FCS), Kagere manages processing and marketing while returning the majority of coffee sales directly to its members. Kenya's transparent auction system ensures full traceability and fair compensation for producers.
