About this coffee

This lot comes from the Gititu Factory, a wet mill in Nyeri, Central Kenya, nestled at 1,400–1,600 meters above sea level. Coffees from this region are celebrated for their intensity, complexity, and vibrant cup profiles, and Gititu AA is no exception.
Carefully hand sorted cherries are pulped and graded by density before undergoing a slow, controlled fermentation under shade for 16–24 hours. Afterward, the beans are soaked in fresh water for up to 18 hours, a step that enhances clarity and structure in the cup.
Drying takes place on raised African beds over a period of up to 21 days. To protect the coffee, plastic covers are used during the hottest hours and at night, ensuring a consistent and clean drying process. The trees grow in Nitisol, a red volcanic soil rich in nutrients and ideal for coffee cultivation. This fertile ground, combined with attentive processing, gives this coffee its signature clarity, brightness, and depth, a true expression of Nyeri terroir.

ORIGIN INFO

The cooperative

The Gititu wet mill is supplied by around 800 smallholder farmers from the surrounding hills of Nyeri. Each farmer tends to about 100 trees, often on family run plots passed down through generations. The main varieties grown here are SL 28 and SL 34 two classic Kenyan cultivars known for their exceptional cup quality. Their deep roots, combined with Nyeri’s altitude and soil, help produce coffees with vibrant acidity and rich, layered sweetness. This is a place where community, tradition, and careful cultivation come together to create something truly special.
